When the very sector that is supposed to uphold truth and justice is labeled as the most corrupt, what is the hope for the country. According to SaharaReporters, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences has indicated that the judicial sector has been the number one in the Nigeria Corruption Index since 2020. The most unexpected (expected) part is that the corruption seems to start from bribery. According to the ICPC, about ₦9 billion was offered as bribes by lawyers to court officials. All of this information was extracted from a report by the agency that was available on Tuesday. The Chairman of ICPC also pointed out that upright demand for bribes are mostly linked to election matters.

Yesterday, the federal government officially launched a five million solar power connections scheme nationwide with grand hopes that this will generate ₦7 billion in taxes, $10 billion in import substitution yearly and raise 25 million Nigerians from a state of darkness by providing an alternative source of light. The Rural Electrification Agency (the implementing agency) also stated that the vice president, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo hopes that this move will create 250,000 new jobs in the energy sector. He also indicated that with the CBN’s help, this could turn out to be a more affordable source of electricity and it would provide electricity to the rural areas.

Remember the N-power programme that was introduced in 2016 by President Buhari? Well, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Sadiya Farouq has on Monday announced that the programme’s capacity has been increased from 500,000 to 1 million beneficiaries under the National Social Investment Programmes(NSIP). The cash-for-work program which was previously under the control of the Vice President was transferred to the control of Ms Farouq’s ministry at the beginning of the president’s second tenure. This program targets key industries like Agriculture, Health, Education and Tax. Other NSIP programmes were also expanded as following; Home-Grown School Feeding (5 million), Small Scale Empowerment Programme (1 million). According to the minister, these efforts by the government are all part of the president’s plan to lift 100 million Nigerians from poverty in 10 years.
