Natural gas also known as fossil gas is a naturally occurring hydrocarbon gas mixture consisting of methane and commonly including varying amounts of other higher alkanes, and sometimes a small percentage of carbon dioxide, nitrogen, hydrogen sulfide, or helium.

As the conversation of transitioning to clean energy gathers momentum across almost all countries of the world, natural gas can be a very powerful energy source in the fuel transitioning process.

According to World Population, Nigeria’s gas reserves are over 5,475 billion cubic meters making Nigeria one of the top ten (10) countries in terms of proven gas reserves.

If the country is serious about its commitments to a cleaner and better environment, it’s natural gas reserves offer perhaps the most potential for a smooth transitioning from other environmentally harmful fossil fuels.

Nigeria’s recalcitrant infrastructural challenges could however prove its biggest limitation to harnessing its natural gas reserves.
