#ChartoftheDay: In 2019, Arrests for Drug-Related Offenses Decreased by 3.9%

The Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) latest annual report shows that there has been a decrease in the total number of persons arrested for drug-related offenses. Drug-related arrests increased from 2010 to 2017 with a 7 year high of 10,009. The number of arrests then decreased in 2018 and the latest report shows that arrests have continued to decline with the 2019 figure at  9,444 persons.

According to the report, the number of women arrested for various drug-related offenses increased from 703 in 2018 to 909 in 2019, an increase of 9.63%.

The number of males arrested for related drug offenses decreased to 8,535 in 2019 from 9,129 in 2018 which is a 90.37% decrease.

Drug-related offenses include the use of drugs, selling and delivering, manufacturing drugs, illegal possession of drugs like cannabis, heroin, meth, cocaine, physio, and other types of Drugs.
